The twenty-third mantra names Lakṣmī — the goddess of plenty, beauty and royalty, the consort of Viṣṇu.
Her name has sounded in this book more than once already, only in another form: ramā. In the thirteenth verse of the fourth Upaniṣad of the pūrva Rāma was named ramādhāra — “the support of Ramā the goddess”; in the forty-second and forty-sixth verses her syllable was inscribed in the middle of the diagram's lotuses.
I noted then the play of names: he is Rāma and she is Ramā, one name in two genders.
Here this play is carried to its end: it is said outright that she is He.
Recall also the sixth verse of the fourth Upaniṣad of the pūrva, where They were compared to the moon and the moonlight: the light is not the moon, nor is it something other.
That relation is now spoken out in the form of doxology. Not “she is at His side” and not “she belongs to Him”: she is He, as the shining is the moon.
And at the same time He is named her support. Both assertions the book holds together.
