तैस् ते परिवृता वीराः शोभमाना महारथाः ॥
नगरं हास्तिनपुरं शनैः प्रविविशुस् तदा ॥
कौतूहलेन नगरं दीर्यमाणम् इवाभवत् ॥
यत्र ते पुरुषव्याघ्राः शोकदुःखविनाशनाः ॥

Translation
"Surrounded by them, those shining heroes, the great charioteers, slowly entered the city of Hastinapura; from curiosity the city seemed almost to split apart, so eager was it to see those tigers among men, the destroyers of sorrow and grief."

Here the whole city rushes out to meet its beloved heroes. It is telling that the people, who had believed the Pandavas dead, now long to see them: the return of the righteous is a festival for everyone. Telling too is the phrase "destroyers of sorrow": the mere presence of the good dispels grief. Here is a joy for the heart: the sight of the righteous gladdens the soul. Thus the text reveals the rejoicing of all; and the city welcomes the Pandavas as deliverers from sorrow.
