That region near the lakes of bloody waters is renowned as the holy "Samantapanchaka". The wise say that a region should be named after the very sign by which it is recognized.

The land near Parashurama's five bloody lakes is called Samantapanchaka and is revered as holy. The suta also explains the general custom: a place is named after its distinguishing mark. But the main point here is the holiness of this land (punya) -- this is the future Kurukshetra, the "field of dharma". Once sanctified by the deed of an incarnation of the Lord (Parashurama), it will become the place where Krishna Himself will reveal the Bhagavad-gita. Thus already the name of the land points to its destiny -- to be the arena of the divine word.
