Traducción

By Nārada's command the agreement concerning Draupadī was established (the rotation of her time with the brothers); there too is the tale of Sunda and Upasunda. Then follows Arjuna's exile to the forest, his meeting with Ulūpī along the way, his pilgrimage to the sacred fords, and the birth of Babhruvāhana. In Dvārakā, Arjuna won the lovely Subhadrā with the consent of Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa); and when Kṛṣṇa, son of Devakī, arrived after the abduction, there followed the obtaining of the discus and the bow and the burning of the Khāṇḍava forest. Then comes the birth from Subhadrā of the radiant Abhimanyu, the rescue of the architect Maya from the flames, the release of the serpent, and the birth of sons to the great sage Maṇḍapāla by Śārṅgī. Such is the vast first book, the Ādi-parva; in it the supreme sage Vyāsa reckoned two hundred eighteen chapters.
