The third circle is counted out, and in it are gathered those whom the tradition remembers by name.
Aṅgada is the son of the slain Vālin, the very one whom Rāma did not leave without a place; he became the envoy to Rāvaṇa. Jāmbavān is the bear, the eldest of the whole army, remembering even the Vāmana avatāra; it was he who reminded Hanumān of his strength before the leap.
These names are secondary to the narrative. But in the diagram they stand level with the royal brothers.
In this is the whole sense of such a chart. The yantra does not distinguish chief from minor participants: whoever was with Him is inscribed. The enemy's son, the old bear, the captains nameless in the legend — all in their places.
And at once a new list begins — Dhṛṣṭi, Jayantaka: these are the ministers of Ayodhyā, named as early as the first book of the Rāmāyaṇa. The next verse will count all eight of them.
So circle by circle the whole world of Rāma gathers around the throne: forest and city, beasts and men, war and rule.
