Oṁ. He who is Śrī-Rāmacandra — He is the Lord, and He is he who is the Highest Puruṣa. Earth, mid-air, heaven! To him be bow upon bow.

The forty-first mantra names Him parama-puruṣa — “the Highest Puruṣa”.
The word puruṣa means “man, male” and at the same time “spirit”; in Sāṅkhya it is the witnessing principle set over against prakṛti.
And now two mantras of this chapter should be set side by side. The twenty-fifth named Jānakī, and the eighth paragraph of the second chapter of the uttara explained that she is mūla-prakṛti, the root nature.
Puruṣa and prakṛti are the pair of Sāṅkhya. Both its members the book has named Rāma.
But parama is added, “the highest”. The Gītā distinguishes three puruṣas: the perishable, the imperishable, and the Highest, puruṣottama, who is above both.
Here the same word and the same thought: He is not one of the two principles, but He who is over the pair.
Note that this name sets Him also in the most human row. Puruṣa is, after all, simply “a man”; and we remember that in the third Upaniṣad of the pūrva He was named mānava, a man, exactly where the birth of the fourteen worlds was spoken of.
