The third and last ṛc, and in it three participles in a row, each about the one who sees this abode.
Viprāsaḥ — “the quivering, the inspired”: so are called the poets in whom the word stirs of itself.
Vipanyavaḥ — “the praising”: those whose work is to laud.
Jāgṛvāṁsaḥ — “the wakeful”: those not asleep.
The last word deserves separate attention after all the book has said of the three states. The second chapter of the uttara examined waking, dream and oblivion and set above all three the fourth; and here — simply “the wakeful”.
Then the verb: samindhate — “they kindle”, from the root indh, “to set alight”; the same root is in the word indhana, fuel, and by one interpretation in the name of Indra.
Consider: the abode of Viṣṇu is not found and not reached — it is kindled.
Like the fire that is in the wood but does not burn until it is drawn out by friction. The praising and the wakeful do the same: they bring no light from outside but kindle what is there.
This is the last thing the book says of man's work.
