The second verse of the code, and in it appears something that deserves special note: hlādinī.
This word is one of the chief in Vaiṣṇava theology. Hlādinī is the Lord's “delighting power”, that by which He Himself enjoys and by which He gives joy to others. The Viṣṇu-purāṇa so names it, and on it rests the whole doctrine of what Rādhā or Sītā is to Him.
Here, of course, it stands as a letter-marker. But the choice of marker is not accidental: the makers of the code took words not at random, but such as fit in sense as well.
So with the rest: vahni — fire; medhā — intellect; amara — “the immortal”; dīrghā — “the long one”, that is, a long vowel; krūrā — “the cruel one”.
Note the method by which such places should be read. To guess them out without the key is self-deception. But one can see of what words the code is composed; and these words are themselves theology.
The mantra, then, is written in words meaning fire, intellect, immortality and the delighting power. Even its cipher speaks of the same thing as the book.
