Oṁ. He who is Śrī-Rāmacandra — He is the Lord, and He is he who is Maheśvara. Earth, mid-air, heaven! To him be bow upon bow.

The forty-second mantra names Him Maheśvara — “the Great Lord”.
This name belongs to Śiva, and the book has already called Rāma by it in the fifth mantra, where the triad was listed.
But it has another source too, most important for Vedānta. The Śvetāśvatara says: “māyā is prakṛti, and the wielder of māyā is Maheśvara”; and on this verse is built the whole doctrine that the world is no glamour on its own, but a power in someone's hands.
We recalled that place in reading the twelfth verse of the fourth Upaniṣad of the pūrva, where Rāma was named māyāmaya — “made of māyā” — and I said then that the word means “woven of His own power”, not “illusory”.
Now it is named also who wields the power.
The next mantra will name Him Mahādeva — and with that the row of Śiva's names will end.
