नाभिनन्दत्यसम्प्राप्तं प्राप्तं भुङ्क्ते यथेप्सितम् यः स सौम्यसमाचारः सन्तुष्ट इति कथ्यते

“Who does not hail what has not come to him, but partakes of what has come as of the desired — he, gentle in conduct, is called content.”

The definition continues, and here is a trait absent from the previous verse.
There the content man was even toward what came. Here he partakes of it yathā-īpsitam — “as of the desired”.
This is no longer evenness but something greater: what has come is received as though it had been wanted.
The same turn stood in 2.55, where the liberated man “partakes as delightful” of old age and poverty alike. Here it is applied to ordinary life.
Note the word saumya-samācāra — “gentle in dealing”. Contentment is named among the qualities visible in one's treatment of people.
This follows naturally. The discontented man inevitably reproaches — if not with words, then with his look. Contentment tells first of all in what it is like to be beside a man.
