ततस् तु ते पूर्वजदेववाक्यं; श्रुत्वा देवा यत्र देवा यजन्ते ॥
समासीनास् ते समेता महाबला; भागीरथ्यां ददृशुः पुण्डरीकम् ॥
दृष्ट्वा च तद् विस्मितास् ते बभूवुस्; तेषाम् इन्द्रस् तत्र शूरो जगाम ॥
सो ऽपश्यद् योषाम् अथ पावकप्रभां; यत्र गङ्गा सततं संप्रसूता ॥

vyāsa uvāca
tatas tu te pūrvajadevavākyaṃ; śrutvā devā yatra devā yajante ||
samāsīnās te sametā mahābalā; bhāgīrathyāṃ dadṛśuḥ puṇḍarīkam ||
dṛṣṭvā ca tad vismitās te babhūvus; teṣām indras tatra śūro jagāma ||
so 'paśyad yoṣām atha pāvakaprabhāṃ; yatra gaṅgā satataṃ saṃprasūtā ||

Translation

Vyasa said: "Then the gods, having heard Brahma's word, went to where the gods sacrifice; seated together, mighty, they saw a lotus on the Ganga. They were amazed, and the hero Indra among them went there -- and beheld a woman, radiant as fire, there where the Ganga ever flows forth."
