वैशंपायन उवाच
तथा तत्रोपविष्टेषु पाण्डवेषु महात्मसु ॥
महत्सु चोपविष्टेषु गन्धर्वेषु च भारत ॥
लोकान् अनुचरन् सर्वान् आगमत् तां सभाम् ऋषिः ॥
नारदः सुमहातेजा ऋषिभिः सहितस् तदा ॥
पारिजातेन राजेन्द्र रैवतेन च धीमता ॥
सुमुखेन च सौम्येन देवर्षिर् अमितद्युतिः ॥
सभास्थान् पाण्डवान् द्रष्टुं प्रीयमाणो मनोजवः ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
tathā tatropaviṣṭeṣu pāṇḍaveṣu mahātmasu ||
mahatsu copaviṣṭeṣu gandharveṣu ca bhārata ||
lokān anucaran sarvān āgamat tāṃ sabhām ṛṣiḥ ||
nāradaḥ sumahātejā ṛṣibhiḥ sahitas tadā ||
pārijātena rājendra raivatena ca dhīmatā ||
sumukhena ca saumyena devarṣir amitadyutiḥ ||
sabhāsthān pāṇḍavān draṣṭuṃ prīyamāṇo manojavaḥ ||
Vaishampayana said: "While the great-souled Pandavas, the great sages, and the gandharvas sat there thus, O Bharata, the sage Narada, of terrible splendor, wandering through all the worlds, came to that hall together with the seers — Parijata, O lord of kings, wise Raivata, and gracious Sumukha; the divine sage, of measureless radiance and swift as thought, rejoiced to see the Pandavas in the hall."

Here Narada is the first of wanderers to enter the new hall — not for gain, but out of joy at seeing the righteous. It is significant that the sage roams all the worlds and brings with him not news of profit but a testing of dharma. Thus the scripture shows that the dwelling of the righteous draws the wise before all others; and next Yudhishthira receives the guest.
