अभियासि जवेन एव समीक्ष्य त्रि-विधम् बलम्abhiyāsi javena eva samīkṣya tri-vidham balamyou march out at once, having surveyed the threefold army,
पार्ष्णि-मूलम् च विज्ञाय व्यवसायम् पराजयम्pārṣṇi-mūlam ca vijñāya vyavasāyam parājayamhaving learned also the enemy's rear support, his resolve, and possible defeat,

Here even war is waged by calculation, not impulse. It is telling that before marching out, the king "surveys" the forces and pays the army in advance: victory is prepared by sobriety and fairness toward one's own. Thus scripture shows prudence in war; what follows concerns victory over oneself before victory over the enemy.
