अग्निहोत्रफला वेदा दत्तभुक्तफलं धनम् ॥
रतिपुत्रफला दाराः शीलवृत्तफलं श्रुतम् ॥

Narada said: "The Vedas bear fruit through the fire-offering, wealth through what is given away and rightly enjoyed, a wife through love and offspring, learning through good character and virtuous conduct."

Here the fruit of every good lies in its being turned toward its rightful end. It is telling that learning bears fruit not through fame but through character: knowledge not translated into a good life is as fruitless as wealth merely hoarded. Scripture thus shows that the value of a gift lies in its virtuous use, not in its possession; and Narada continues his questioning.
