कच्चित् सर्वे अनुरक्ताः त्वाम् कुल-पुत्राः प्रधानतःkaccit sarve anuraktāḥ tvām kula-putrāḥ pradhānataḥI hope all the well-born men are devoted to you above all;
कच्चित् प्राणान् तव अर्थेषु संत्यजन्ति सदा युधिkaccit prāṇān tava artheṣu saṃtyajanti sadā yudhiI hope for your sake they always give up their lives in battle;
कच्चित् न एकः बहून् अर्थान् सर्वशः सांपरायिकान्kaccit na ekaḥ bahūn arthān sarvaśaḥ sāṃparāyikānI hope no single man, acting willfully and transgressing the ordinances,

कच्चित् पुरुष-कारेण पुरुषः कर्म शोभयन्kaccit puruṣa-kāreṇa puruṣaḥ karma śobhayanI hope the man who, by his own effort, has adorned -- carried out -- a task,
लभते मानम् अधिकम् भूयः वा भक्त-वेतनम्labhate mānam adhikam bhūyaḥ vā bhakta-vetanamreceives greater honor, and beyond that, food and pay?

Here loyalty is rewarded, and the self-will of any single man is checked. It is telling that diligence must be rewarded with honor and pay: where labor is seen and valued, zeal is born. Thus scripture shows just recompense as the engine of service; what follows concerns care for the worthy and the defenseless.
