न हि केवलम् अस्माकम्na hi kevalam asmākamfor not with us alone,
यावन्तः अन्ये च पार्थिवाःyāvantaḥ anye ca pārthivāḥ[but] as many other kings as there are,

बुद्धिः बुद्धिमताम् वरbuddhiḥ buddhimatām vara[the same] reasoning, O best of the wise;
अथ हंसः इति ख्यातःatha haṃsaḥ iti khyātaḥthere was [also] one called Hamsa,
कः चित् आसीत् महान् नृपःkaḥ cit āsīt mahān nṛpaḥa great king;

Here a mighty warrior perishes not by the sword but by a false report and despair. It is telling that attachment struck down one unconquered in battle: hearing of his friend's [supposed] death, Dibhaka goes to his own death. Thus scripture shows that even the strongest is undone not by an enemy but by his own passion; and what follows tells of the second one's death.
