लोकसंहनना वीरा वीर्यवन्तो महाबलाः ॥
स्मरन्तो मध्यमं देशं वृष्णिमध्ये गतव्यथाः ॥
स त्वं सम्राड्गुणैर् युक्तः सदा भरतसत्तम ॥
क्षत्रे सम्राजम् आत्मानं कर्तुम् अर्हसि भारत ॥
न तु शक्यं जरासंधे जीवमाने महाबले ॥
राजसूयस् त्वया प्राप्तुम् एषा राजन् मतिर् मम ॥

lokasaṃhananā vīrā vīryavanto mahābalāḥ ||
smaranto madhyamaṃ deśaṃ vṛṣṇimadhye gatavyathāḥ ||
sa tvaṃ samrāḍguṇair yuktaḥ sadā bharatasattama ||
kṣatre samrājam ātmānaṃ kartum arhasi bhārata ||
na tu śakyaṃ jarāsaṃdhe jīvamāne mahābale ||
rājasūyas tvayā prāptum eṣā rājan matir mama ||

Translation

"[These] heroes, able to crush the world, valiant and mighty, recalling the middle country, are now free of sorrow among the Vrishnis. You, always endowed with the qualities of a sovereign, O best of the Bharatas, deserve to make yourself sovereign over the kshatriyas; but it is not possible for you to attain the Rajasuya while the mighty Jarasandha lives — such, O king, is my opinion."
