द्वितीयं वासुदेवाद्यैराग्नेयादिषु संयुतः । तृतीयं वायुसूनुं च सुग्रीवं भरतं तथा

The circles multiply, and in the second appears what was not in the tale at all: Vāsudeva.
This is the first of the four names of the vyūhas — Vāsudeva, Saṅkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna, Aniruddha — by which the Pāñcarātra describes the unfolding of Viṣṇu. They are placed at the four intermediate quarters: south-east, south-west and so on.
Their appearance here binds Rāma to the common Vaiṣṇava theology. Till now the book kept to its own tradition; now it sets around Him names familiar to every worshipper of Viṣṇu — and thereby says that Rāma is no separate deity of his own legend, but the very Same.
The third circle returns to the names of the tale: Hanumān, Sugrīva, Bharata. Notice — the same ones who already stood in the hexagon.
The repetition is no oversight. In a diagram one and the same person may stand in different circles, because the circles mean not places in a hall but degrees of closeness. Hanumān is both in the triangle before the face and in the third circle among the others.
The next verses will count this circle to its end: Vibhīṣaṇa, Aṅgada, Jāmbavān and the ministers of Ayodhyā.
