The forty-seventh mantra brings together the two formulas the book treasures most: sac-cid-ānanda and eka-rasa.
The first stood in the eighth verse of the fifth Upaniṣad of the pūrva, in that single verse one can take along without knowing either diagrams or code: “Rāma I praise, whose form is being, consciousness and bliss.”
The second — in the second mantra of this very chapter: “whose Ātman is the undivided one savour”.
Here they are joined.
Let us note that the next-to-last mantra of the list returns to that with which the list began. The first named Him the non-dual highest bliss; the forty-seventh — the one savour of being-consciousness-bliss.
Between them have found room the gods, the Vedas, the souls, the elements, death, the stars, the syllable Oṁ and Śiva.
So a doxology is built: it goes round everything and returns.
The word rasa stands here last in order but not in weight. It means that the object of the praise is no abstract fullness, but that which is enjoyed together.
