ग्राम्यारण्यपशुघ्नत्वं संचितं दुरुतं च यत् । मद्यपानेन यत्पापं तदप्याशु विनाशयेत्

The list returns to the sins and names two that stand together not by chance: the killing of animals and wine.
Both are examined at length in the dharma-śāstras, and both belong to the class where a man harms not another person but himself and the order of life.
The word saṁcita — “stored up” — also deserves note. It means that stock of consequences gathered over past lives which has not yet begun to bear fruit.
In the doctrine of karma three stores are distinguished: the gathered, that which has begun to fruit, and that being made now. Here the first is named — the one a man cannot approach by any effort, because he does not remember it.
This is why lists of this kind are needed at all. What is done today can be mended; what is gathered over former births cannot.
The eighth chapter of the uttara has already explained the name of the river Varaṇā: “it wards off all faults done in other births.”
Here the same thought, but the means too is named.
