He is the Lord of all, he is all-knowing, he is the one ruling from within, he is the womb of all; for from him is the arising and in him the passing of beings.

A verse of the third foot, but it speaks no longer of the sleeping man — it speaks of Him who is in him.
Five names in a row, and each is a whole doctrine: sarveśvara — “the Lord of all”; sarvajña — “the all-knowing”; antaryāmin — “the one ruling from within”; yoni — “the womb”; and He from whom is the arising and into whom the passing.
The antaryāmin is the word on which the whole seventh khaṇḍa of the Subāla Upaniṣad stands: there everything that exists is enumerated, and of each it is said that He dwells in it and rules it from within, while it does not know Him.
Set this beside the previous paragraph. There the sleeper was “a mass of cognition” and knew nothing. Here it is said: but He who is in him is all-knowing.
So the oblivion of deep sleep belongs to the man, not to Him who is with him. The Ātman does not sleep together with the sleeper.
This is Vaiṣṇava Vedānta's answer to the temptation of seeing in unconscious rest the highest state. There is Someone who wakes while all sleep; and He is not impersonal — He is named the Lord and the knower.
The word yoni, “womb”, we read also in the eighth verse of the fourth Upaniṣad, where Sītā was so named.
