अत्रैते श्लोका भवन्ति । गाणपत्येषु शैवेषु शाक्तसौरेष्वभीष्टदः । वैष्णवेष्वपि सर्वेषु राममन्त्रः फलाधिकः

अनुवाद
Here there are these verses: “Among the worshippers of Gaṇapati, of Śiva, of Śakti and of the Sun it grants the desired, and among all the Vaiṣṇavas — the mantra of Rāma exceeds all in fruit.”

The verse part of the chapter begins, and its first verse lists five schools.
This is the well-known five: the gāṇapatyas — worshippers of Gaṇeśa; the śaivas — of Śiva; the śāktas — of the Goddess; the sauras — of the Sun; the vaiṣṇavas — of Viṣṇu. So worshippers were divided in the middle ages, and the division is acknowledged to this day.
It is said that the mantra of Rāma in all these circles grants the desired and exceeds in fruit.
This can be read two ways, and the second reading is truer. The first: our mantra is better than yours. The second: it works also where it is not known under this name.
For the second speaks this whole book. The fifth mantra of the previous chapter named Rāma Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Maheśvara; the twenty-second — Sarasvatī; the twenty-fourth — Gaurī; the forty-third — Mahādeva.
After such a list, to boast before strangers would be strange.
The sense, then, is this: with whatever anyone honours the Highest, he honours the Same; and therefore the name here called the king of mantras works within every enclosure.
Note too the turn abhīṣṭada — “granting the desired”. Not “converting to one's own faith”.
