Having written the syllable of wrath in the gaps between the points of the corners, and around it — the syllable of speech, let the mantrin draw three circles with an eight-petalled lotus and write upon it the vowels.

The diagram grows outward: beyond the hexagon — three circles, beyond them a lotus of eight petals.
This lotus is the same as in the yantra of the Gopāla-tāpanī; the eight-petalled flower is the base of almost every diagram.
But the chief thing here is what is written on it: svarān, the vowels. All sixteen vowel sounds of Sanskrit.
And from here begins what will occupy the next five verses: the whole alphabet is written out onto the diagram.
Let us understand what this means. The vowels are that without which no syllable sounds; the consonants without them are mute. Placing the alphabet around the name of Rāma, the diagram says: every word that can be spoken is composed around Him.
We have read this thought twice already. The twelfth verse of the first Upaniṣad called the mantra “the signifier of all that can be named”. The third verse of the second Upaniṣad said that in the seed of the name lies the whole moving and unmoving world. Here the same is laid on paper.
Krodha and gir — the syllables of wrath and of speech — are set between the corners as guards.
