The third lotus, and here the book does not encode but speaks the mantra out entire.
“Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya” — “Oṁ, a bow to the Lord Vāsudeva.” Twelve syllables; this mantra is chief in the Vaiṣṇava scriptures, and the Bhāgavata-purāṇa opens with it.
The word bhagavat means “possessing bhaga” — the fullness of endowments: strength, fame, wealth, knowledge, beauty and detachment. Vāsudeva is “the son of Vasudeva”, that is, Kṛṣṇa, and at the same time “he in whom all dwells”.
That this mantra is inscribed in the yantra of Rāma is a direct indication of oneness. Whoever draws the diagram of Rāma writes on it the name of Kṛṣṇa.
Note the order of the lotuses: eight petals with the alphabet, eight with Nārāyaṇa, twelve with Vāsudeva, sixteen — in the next verse. The circles widen, and with them the name widens: from sounds in general to Nārāyaṇa, from Nārāyaṇa to Vāsudeva.
So the diagram answers the question that may arise in the reader: why are there so many books about Rāma and about Kṛṣṇa, and all say one thing? Because the names are many, and the Named is one.
