नवप्रसूतस्य परादयं चाहमिदं मम इति यः प्रत्ययः स्वस्थस्तज्जाग्रत्प्रागभावनात्

अयम् च अहम् इदम् ममayam ca aham idam mama“this here”, “I”, “this is mine”; “there it is”, “I”, “this belongs to me”
इति यः प्रत्ययः स्वस्थःiti yaḥ pratyayaḥ svasthaḥthe notion which, settled in itself; the said conception, established in itself
तत् जाग्रत् प्राक्-अभावनात्tat jāgrat prāk-abhāvanātis waking — since before it was not; it is wakefulness, for earlier it did not exist
अनुवाद
“In one newly born from the Highest, the notion ‘this here’, ‘I’, ‘this is mine’, once settled, is waking — for before, it was not.”

The second step: jāgrat proper, waking.
Here appear for the first time those three turns which in 4.94 were named the mind's whole composition: “this here”, “I”, “this is mine”.
Note the proviso prāk-abhāvanāt — “because before this it was not”. The step is named precisely for its newness: in a being just come forth from the Highest, the notion of itself appears for the first time.
This state is not yet fastened by the habit of many lives. It is svastha — “settled in itself”, but still light.
The next verse will show what becomes of it with time, and there the difference will be striking.
And further: nava-prasūtasya parāt, “of one born from the Highest”. The book remembers whence everything came, even while describing the fall.
