सर्वातीतपदालम्बी परिपूर्णैकचिन्मयः नोद्वेगी न च तुष्टात्मा संसारे नावसीदति

The description begins of one who has arrived; it will take several verses and repeats the refrain na avasīdati — “he does not sink, does not founder”.
Note the pair: na udvegī na ca tuṣṭātmā — “neither anxious nor self-satisfied”.
The second is unexpected. Self-satisfaction is set beside anxiety as its pair.
Rightly: complacency and anxiety are two swings of one pendulum, and both depend on how affairs are going.
The word avasīdati is the very one with which the Bhagavad-gītā describes Arjuna lowering his bow: “he sank down”. Here it stands with a negation.
Paripūrṇa — “full to the brim”. Fullness was already a mark of the liberated (2.47, 4.34).
