सा वा एषा देवता एतासाम् देवतानाम् पाप्मानम् मृत्युम् अपहत्य यत्र आसाम् दिशाम् अन्तः तद् गमयाम् चकार तद् आसाम् पाप्मनः विन्यदधात् तस्मात् न जनम् इयात् न अन्तम् इयात् नेत् पाप्मानम् मृत्युम् अन्ववायात् इति
sā vā eṣā devatā etāsām devatānām pāpmānam mṛtyum apahatya yatra āsām diśām antaḥ tad gamayām cakāra tad āsām pāpmanaḥ vinyadadhāt tasmāt na janam iyāt na antam iyāt net pāpmānam mṛtyum anvavāyāt iti
This deity, having beaten off evil and death from those deities, carried it away to where the quarters of space have their end, and there it laid down their evil. Therefore one should not go to the people out there, nor go to that farthest edge, lest one come upon evil, upon death.

The victorious prāṇa carries its service through to the end: not only did it beat evil off speech, eye, hearing and mind, it carried it away — "beyond the end of the quarters of space", to the world's rubbish heap. A pure power purifies others: that is the property of the chief prāṇa — it saves not itself (nothing threatened it) but its wounded brethren.
Hence a domestic rule of caution: not to go "to the people out there", to the borderlands where the evil that was carried out lies heaped. Behind the archaism of the prohibition is a sober spiritual geography: evil has its own places and its own environment; what has been cleaned out of the heart is not annihilated but carried out, and there is no need to go visiting it. He who has been set free does not stroll along the edges of his former darkness.
