Translation
The formed is everything other than wind and space; it is the mortal, the standing, the here. The essence of this formed, mortal, standing, here is the one who gives heat [the sun]: he is the essence of the here.

The formed half of the world is everything dense except wind and space: earth, waters, fire, bodies. It is mortal, stable, at hand. And it has a rasa — an essence, an extract, a taste: the sun, "the one who gives heat". Everything dense is thickened about a solar kernel as pulp about a stone; the luminary is the essence of the material world.
The word rasa is priceless here: the essence of things is no abstraction but a juice and a taste; to know an essence is to get through to its flavour. So the Upaniṣad prepares the coming formula raso vai saḥ: both forms of Brahman will turn out to have a taste, and both tastes are the Puruṣa.
