अथ अमूर्तम् वायुः च अन्तरिक्षम् च एतत् अमृतम् एतत् यत् एतत् त्यम् तस्य एतस्य अमूर्तस्य एतस्य अमृतस्य एतस्य यतस्य एतस्य त्यस्य एषः रसः यः एषः एतस्मिन् मण्डले पुरुषः त्यस्य हि एषः रसः इति अधिदैवतम्

Translation
And the formless is wind and space; it is the immortal, the moving, the beyond. The essence of this formless, immortal, moving, beyond is the person in the solar orb: he is the essence of the beyond. So much with reference to the deities.

The formless half is wind and space: the intangible, the immortal (these elements neither rot nor burn), the flowing, the "beyond". And its essence is not the solar disc itself but "the person in the solar orb" (maṇḍale puruṣaḥ): the Face within the light, the golden Man known from all the Upaniṣads (ChU 1.6; BU 5.5).
The arrangement is profound: the essence of the visible is the sun; the essence of the invisible is the Person in the sun. Two rasas are set one within the other, like light and the Shining One: the dense world thickens toward the luminary, the subtle toward the Person behind the luminary. The ladder of essences leads not into a void but to a Face — and now the same layout will be repeated within the man.
