The conclusion to the list, and in it the goal is named: brahma-abhidham padam — “the state called Brahman”.
Note the word abhidha — “called, named”. Even here the book remembers its own proviso of 4.44: the names are contrived for usage.
Gama — “going, arrival, terminus”. The stages lead somewhere, and that “somewhere” is named.
The next verses will describe it, and the description will follow the familiar pattern — through negations.
It is worth noting that the whole chapter is built symmetrically: seven steps down, seven up, and at the end — that which is no step.
