Saṅkalpa-kalpadruma
"The Wish-Tree of Resolve" — a poem of 732 verses by Jīva Gosvāmī. It opens oddly: in Vṛndāvana an old man addresses his own mind — "you are dying, fool; drink this hidden nectar" — and tells it to resolve what service it wants. What follows is that resolve: first Kṛṣṇa's life in Vraja in order, from birth to the departure for Mathurā; then the same life as an eternal unending day; then season by season, from spring through the rains to winter; and at last the fruit such a resolve bears. In his six Sandarbhas the same author argued that love is the final end of scripture; here he argues nothing and simply desires — in detail, naming each tree and each hour. Saṅkalpa, "resolve", is itself the path here: a man who has nothing but a wish finds that the wish is a wish-fulfilling tree.
