सः यः एवम् एतत् यज्ञायज्ञीयम् अङ्गेषु प्रोतं वेद अङ्गी भवति न अङ्गेन विहूर्छति सर्वम् आयुः एति ज्योक् जीवति महान् प्रजया पशुभिः भवति महान् कीर्त्या संवत्सरम् मज्ज्ञः न अश्नीयात् तत् व्रतम् मज्ज्ञः न अश्नीयात् इति वा
saḥ yaḥ evam etat yajñāyajñīyam aṅgeṣu protaṃ veda aṅgī bhavati na aṅgena vihūrchati sarvam āyuḥ eti jyok jīvati mahān prajayā paśubhiḥ bhavati mahān kīrtyā saṃvatsaram majjñaḥ na aśnīyāt tat vratam majjñaḥ na aśnīyāt iti vā
He who thus knows this yajñāyajñīya woven into the members becomes whole of limb, is not crippled in any member, attains the full span of life, lives in brightness, is great in offspring and cattle, great in fame. Let him not eat marrow for a year — that is the vow; or else: let him not eat marrow at all.

The fruit of the bodily sāman: aṅgī bhavati — "he becomes whole of limb", nāṅgena vihūrchati — "he does not stumble in any member": the wholeness of the body is the reward of one who honours the body as a melody: an instrument that is honoured does not go out of tune.
The vow is to spare the cadence: saṁvatsaraṁ majjño nāśnīyāt — "let him not eat [bone] marrow for a year" (the marrow is the nidhana of the bodily sāman!): do not devour the song's ending; and a stricter recension: "or not eat marrow at all". The logic of the series' vows is carried through to the body: what one has recognised as one's own deepest beat is not eaten thoughtlessly: reverence changes even the table. A body understood as a sacrificial sāman guards itself — by the vow of the one who honours it.
