The rhythm of the divine meal: te etad eva rūpam abhisaṁviśanti — "they enter into this appearance" (into the sun's red appearance, their own nectar!) — etasmād rūpād udyanti — "and out of it they rise": the Vasus sink into their colour and step forth out of it: the tasting is an entering into an appearance, the satisfaction a coming out.
The formula, which will be repeated for each host, describes communion as immersion: to taste an appearance is to enter it, to live in it a while, to come out renewed: not "to look at a colour" but to have been the colour. Such is the depth of contemplative feeding: the beholder enters the beheld — and the beheld gives itself to him from within.
