Having told this to Kṛṣṇa, the son of Devakī, Ghora Āṅgirasa said — and that one became free from thirst: "At the last hour let him take refuge in this triad: 'Thou art the Imperishable! Thou art the Unshaken! Thou art the Life-breath-refined!'" Of this there are two ṛcs.

A verse precious to the whole Vaiṣṇava tradition: tad dhaitad ghora āṅgirasaḥ kṛṣṇāya devakī-putrāyoktvā — "this Ghora Āṅgirasa told to Kṛṣṇa, the son of Devakī"! The Chāndogya's own śruti names Kṛṣṇa Devakīputra as a pupil who received the science of life-as-sacrifice: the very name that the Gītā and the Bhāgavatam will reveal as the Teacher of the world stands here in an Upaniṣadic line of succession: the tradition sees in this the seal of identity — the Speaker of the Gītā listened in his youth to Ghora (and the teaching agrees: life as sacrifice is the heart of the Gītā: yajñārthāt karmaṇaḥ!). apipāsa eva sa babhūva — "and he became free from thirst": the hearer thirsted no more — the mark of a science of exhaustive fullness.
And then the testament for the last hour: anta-velāyām etat trayaṁ pratipadyeta — "at the hour of the end let him take refuge in this triad": akṣitam asi — "Thou art the Imperishable!", acyutam asi — "Thou art the Unshaken!" (acyuta — Acyuta! — an eternal name of Kṛṣṇa in the tradition: "the Unfallen"!), prāṇa-saṁśitam asi — "Thou art the Life-breath-refined!": the dying man addresses the Imperishable-Unshaken-Life-giving as "Thou": the last mantra is not about oneself but to Him.
So the third adhyāya places into the hour of death a call upon Acyuta — millennia before the Gītā (8.5–6) gives the same testament: "he who at the last hour, leaving the body, remembers Me, comes to Me." The science of Ghora Āṅgirasa is the earliest link of that chain: life is a sacrifice, death a bath, and the soul's last utterance is the name of the Unshaken.
