एवम् एव खलु सोम्य इमाः सर्वाः प्रजाः सतः आगम्य न विदुः सतः आगच्छामह इति ते इह व्याघ्रः वा सिंहः वा वृकः वा वराहः वा कीटः वा पतङ्गः वा दंशः वा मशकः वा यत् यत् भवन्ति तत् आभवन्ति

So, my dear, all these creatures, having come out of Being, do not know: 'we have come out of Being'. Here they become again what they were: a tiger or a lion, a wolf or a boar, a worm or a moth, a gadfly or a gnat.

The parable of the rivers is turned the other way about: in the honey parable creatures did not know that they had entered Being — here they do not know that they came out of him (sata āgamya, "having come from Being"). The oblivion is symmetrical: a soul remembers neither its mouth nor its source; neither where it returns by night and by death, nor whence it comes by morning and by birth.
Hence the bestiary is repeated: he who does not remember his source inherits not the source but his own yesterday's habits. The forgetting of a pedigree is the whole mechanics of saṁsāra, and the Upaniṣad's message compresses into an antidote: know whose you are. Śravaṇam, the hearing about the Source, is the first medicine; with it the father treats his son, parable after parable.
