The proclaimers of Brahman say: the morning pressing [of soma] belongs to the Vasus, the midday pressing to the Rudras, the third pressing to the Ādityas and the Viśvedevas.

The adhyāya's closing khaṇḍa deals with the mystery of the three savanas (pressings of soma): brahmavādino vadanti — "those who speak of Brahman say": the prātaḥ-savana, the morning one, belongs to the Vasus (the eight gods of the foundations), the mādhyandina, the midday one, to the Rudras (the terrible purifiers), the tṛtīya-savana to the Ādityas and the All-gods: the sacrifice's day is parcelled out among three hosts: morning to the ordainers, noon to the storm, evening to all.
A question arises that will be voiced at once (the next verse): if all the savanas are given away to the gods, where is the world of the sacrificer himself? The khaṇḍa will answer with a science of "opening doors": before each pressing, a sāman to the masters of that hour, that they may "make over" to the sacrificer his share. The adhyāya ends with a practicum: how to sing so that the heavens will share.
