अथ ह हंसाः निशायाम् अतिपेतुः तत् ह एवम् हंसः हंसम् अभ्युवाद हो हो अयि भल्लाक्ष भल्लाक्ष जानश्रुतेः पौत्रायणस्य समं दिवा ज्योतिः आततं तत् मा प्रसाङ्क्षीः तत् त्वाम् मा प्रधाक्षीः इति

Traducción
Now one night some geese flew past. And one goose said to another: "Ho, ho, Bhallākṣa, Bhallākṣa! The light of Jānaśruti Pautrāyaṇa is spread out level with the sky — do not touch it, lest it burn you up!"

A night scene, a court of birds: haṁsā niśāyām atipetuḥ — "geese flew past in the night" (the haṁsa, the wild goose, is the Upaniṣads' seer-bird!): and one warns another: the light of Jānaśruti is "spread out level with the day — do not touch it, do not be scorched!"
The first goose is in earnest: the glory of good deeds is a real light, visible to birds from on high: Jānaśruti's merit burns like a force-field! The Upaniṣad does not mock merit — it confirms its power from a bird's-eye view… so that the second goose's answer may strike the harder: there is a light beside which this blaze is nothing. An overheard conversation of birds is an ancient mode of revelation: the truth about himself a man often learns from talk not addressed to him.
