सः होवाच गार्ग्यः यः एव अयम् अप्सु पुरुषः एतम् एव अहम् ब्रह्म उपास इति सः होवाच अजातशत्रुः मा म एतस्मिन् संवदिष्ठाः प्रतिरूपः इति वै अहम् एतम् उपास इति सः यः एतम् एवम् उपास्ते प्रतिरूपम् ह एव एनम् उपगच्छति न अप्रतिरूपम् अथो प्रतिरुपः अस्मात् जायते
saḥ hovāca gārgyaḥ yaḥ eva ayam apsu puruṣaḥ etam eva aham brahma upāsa iti saḥ hovāca ajātaśatruḥ mā ma etasmin saṃvadiṣṭhāḥ pratirūpaḥ iti vai aham etam upāsa iti saḥ yaḥ etam evam upāste pratirūpam ha eva enam upagacchati na apratirūpam atho pratirupaḥ asmāt jāyate
Gārgya said: "The person who is in the waters — him I venerate as Brahman." Ajātaśatru said: "Do not speak to me of him! I venerate him as Correspondence." To him who venerates him thus comes what corresponds and not what does not correspond, and there is born to him a [son] who corresponds to him.

The seventh address is the waters, and the rank is pratirūpa, "Correspondence": water takes the form of any vessel and reflects any face; it is the element of response, of the exact answer. And the fruit is wonderful: to the venerator "comes what corresponds" — life begins to answer him in tune, without alien or crooked events; and a son is born "corresponding", after the father's likeness.
Behind this rank stands a deep law: the world is responsive as water is; it returns to a man his own shape. He who venerates Correspondence lives consciously in a mirror-universe and receives reflections without distortion. Gārgya, we may note, will soon undergo this law himself: the world will answer his knowledge to the exact measure — with the king's silence.
