He said: "That which is above the sky, Gārgī, that which is below the earth, that which is between sky and earth, that which they call the past, the present and the future — that is woven, warp and woof, upon space."

The answer to the first arrow: everything extended and everything temporal is woven "upon space" (ākāśe). Ākāśa here is the subtlest of the manifest grounds: an invisible fabric on which the worlds and events are hung; even time is "woven" upon it, since every "before" and "after" needs room for succession.
The answer is correct — and Gārgī knows it is not the last: she deliberately kept a second arrow. Space is the ground of everything manifest, but it is itself manifest; the fabric has been found — the Weaver remains. The first arrow has drawn her opponent out to the edge of the manifest; the second will fly beyond the edge.
