सोष्यन्तीम् अद्भिर् अभ्युक्षति यथा वायुः पुष्करिणीं समिङ्गयति सर्वतः एवा ते गर्भः एजतु सह अवैतु जरायुणा इन्द्रस्यायं व्रजः कृतः सार्गलः सपरिश्रयः तम् इन्द्र निर्जहि गर्भेण सावरां सह इति

Traducción
When she is in labour he sprinkles her with water: "As the wind stirs a lotus pond on every side, so let your embryo move and come out with the afterbirth. This is Indra's pen, made with a bolt and a fence: Indra, bring out the embryo together with the afterbirth!"

The mantra of childbirth, with an image of extraordinary tenderness: "as the wind stirs a lotus pond on every side, so let the embryo move": the birth is asked to be as light as a ripple over water; the child is a lotus lifting from the pond. And then a warrior's help: the womb is called "Indra's pen with a bolt" — and the Thunderer himself is summoned to open the gates and bring the child out with the afterbirth unharmed.
The Vedic household accompanied every threshold of life with a mantra — and the threshold of birth before all others: a woman in labour is surrounded not by fuss but by images of a pond, a lotus and a mighty Opener of gates. An obstetrics of prayer: fear is driven out by beauty.
