idam vai tan madhu dadhyaṅṅ ātharvaṇaḥ aśvibhyām uvāca tad etad ṛṣiḥ paśyan avocat ātharvaṇāya aśvinau dadhīce aśvyam śiraḥ prati airayatam saḥ vām madhu pra vocat ṛtāyan tvāṣṭram yat dasrau apikakṣyam vām iti
This is that honey which Dadhyañc Ātharvaṇa told to the Aśvins. Seeing this, the ṛṣi said: "O Aśvins! You set a horse's head upon Dadhyañc Ātharvaṇa. True to his word, he told you, O wonder-workers, the honey of Tvaṣṭṛ — and the secret that had been hidden from you."

The second Ṛgvedic verse (RV 1.117.22) completes the story: the Aśvins set a horse's head on the ṛṣi, and he, "true to his word" (ṛtāyan — faithful to ṛta, the cosmic truth), told them "the honey of Tvaṣṭṛ" — the secret knowledge of the divine artificer and world-builder, "the secret that had been hidden" (apikakṣya — what is under the arm, close to the heart).
Dadhyañc is wonderful in his faithfulness both ways: he did not break the word given to Indra (it was no longer that head that spoke!) and he did not refuse those who thirsted for knowledge. A holy resourcefulness: when a prohibition and a mercy collide, love finds a horse's head — a way round that does not break the truth. So the teachers of every age have found a way to hand on the secret without betraying what was entrusted to them.
