Traducción
He who knows the support stands firm on level ground and stands firm on rough ground. The eye is the support: by the eye one stands firm on the level and on the rough. He who knows this stands firm on the level and on the rough.

The eye's title is pratiṣṭhā, support, and the Bṛhadāraṇyaka adds a lovely refinement: "on the level and on the rough" (same ca durge ca): by sight a man is steady both on a smooth road and on a steep one; a step is as sure as the foot can see.
Durga — "hard to pass" — is a capacious word: any steep place of life. The promise to the knower is steadiness on both kinds of ground: one who sees (the meaning and the way included) does not stumble even where others must grope.
