Here a father is not a father, a mother not a mother, the worlds not worlds, the gods not gods, the Vedas not Vedas. Here a thief is not a thief, a murderer not a murderer, a caṇḍāla not a caṇḍāla, a paulkasa not a paulkasa, a monk not a monk, an ascetic not an ascetic. Good does not follow him, evil does not follow him: he is then beyond all the sorrows of the heart.

A description of the depth that takes the breath away: in the embrace of the Knowing One all titles fall away — familial (father, mother), cosmic (worlds, gods), sacred (the Vedas!), moral (thief, murderer), social and ascetic. They are not "abolished" — they do not reach there: all definitions belong to the banks, and he is in the water.
The line "the Vedas are not Vedas" is the boldest: scripture itself is a means of the path and does not follow the one who has come into the embrace (one does not carry the boat about the house on one's shoulders). And the moral ear must be exact here: "a thief is not a thief" is no amnesty for wrongdoing in waking life but a testimony that neither merit nor guilt passes into that depth: ananvāgataṁ puṇyena ananvāgataṁ pāpena — good and evil stay behind on the night's bank. He is "beyond all the sorrows of the heart" (sarvāñ śokān hṛdayasya) — where the Upaniṣad promised from its first words to ferry us.
