She said: "That which is above the sky, that which is below the earth, that which is between sky and earth, that which they call the past, the present and the future — upon what is that woven, warp and woof?"

The first arrow. Gārgī has drawn the whole circle: above the sky, below the earth, between them — and all of time: past, present, future. The full extent of space and time is taken in one formula — and to it she applies her signature question: "upon what is it woven, warp and woof?"
The difference from her first attempt (3.6) is fundamental: there she climbed the ladder of the worlds rung by rung — now she takes the whole ladder at once. Not "upon what are the waters, upon what the wind", but "upon what is everything, time included": the question goes straight to the last ground of the manifest. This is a shot not at a storey but at the ceiling.
