Then Bhujyu Lāhyāyani questioned him: "Yājñavalkya," he said, "we were wandering as students through the land of the Madras and came to the house of Patañcala Kāpya. He had a daughter possessed by a gandharva. We asked him: 'Who are you?' He said: 'Sudhanvan Āṅgirasa'. Questioning him about the ends of the worlds, we asked: 'Where did the Pārikṣitas go?' Where did the Pārikṣitas go? — that is what I ask you, Yājñavalkya: where did the Pārikṣitas go?"

The third questioner is Bhujyu, and his question is deliberately exotic: a story from his student wanderings — the house of Patañcala, a daughter into whom a gandharva (a celestial spirit) had entered, and knowledge got from the spirit: it named itself the ancient Sudhanvan Āṅgirasa and answered about "the ends of the worlds". The test question comes from that otherworldly source: "where did the Pārikṣitas go?" — an ancient royal line, famous for its horse-sacrifices, which vanished from the world.
The trap is subtle: such a question cannot be answered out of books — Bhujyu is testing whether Yājñavalkya's knowledge reaches as far as the knowledge of spirits: past the edge of the maps. It is an examination in experience of the unseen — and Yājñavalkya is about to answer as though he had escorted the Pārikṣitas to the place himself.
