Traducción
These vital powers, disputing about who was best, went to Brahman and asked: "Which of us is the richest?" He said: "He of you is the richest at whose going out this body becomes the worst off."

The quarrel of "I am better!" (ahaṁ-śreyas) goes to court — and the judge here is higher than in the Chāndogya version: not Prajāpati but Brahman himself. The powers' question is domestically mercantile: "which of us is vasiṣṭha, the richest?" — and Brahman's answer overturns the yardstick: not by the brilliance of one's presence but by the ruin of one's absence: "at whose going out the body becomes the worst off".
The criterion of irreplaceability is this parable's everlasting gift: true value is measured not by conspicuousness but by what collapses without you. A five-year experiment of departures by turns begins — the most patient trial in the history of arguments.
