The middle joints of the vine: here flash the names of kinsmen of heroes we know — Gārgya (Gārgī's line!), Uddālakāyana (Uddālaka's school), Jābālāyana (the line of Jābālā — Satyakāma's). The pedigree of the knowledge is woven together with the pedigrees of the conversations themselves: the descendants of those who argued hand on a common fruit.
So the Upaniṣad quietly shows the fate of the tournaments: the rivals of that night at Janaka's court became links of one chain; the truth reconciled the lines more firmly than blood-kinship could.
