The last joints lead, as before (2.6.3), beyond the horizon of human names — to Prajāpati and to Brahman: the source of the vine is not in man. So closes the fourth and greatest book of the Upaniṣad: the light of a man and his dreams, death and fearlessness, the farewell to Maitreyī — none of it composed, all of it received and handed on.
Two books remain — the "supplementary" ones (khila): a scattering of small vidyās and instructions about offspring. But the summit is passed: Yājñavalkya went away saying "such is immortality", and the vine has carried his voice as far as this page.
