atha enam abhimṛśati bhramad asi jvalad asi pūrṇam asi prastabdham asi ekasabham asi hiṅkṛtam asi hiṅkriyamānam asi udgītham asi udgīyamānam asi śrāvitam asi pratyāśrāvitam asi ārdre saṃdīptam asi vibhūr asi prabhūr asi annam asi jyotir asi nidhanam asi saṃvargo asi iti
Then he touches it [the mantha]: "You are the moving, you are the blazing, you are the full, you are the steadfast, you are the one assembly, you are the call 'hiṅ' and that which is 'hiṅ'-ed, you are the udgītha and that which is sung, you are the announced and the answered, you are what is kindled in the moist, you are all-pervading, you are ruling; you are light, and taste, and immortality."

The touching of the cup comes with a litany of sixteen names: the mantha is magnified as the whole of worship at once (hiṅkāra, udgītha, the announcements — the entire structure of sāman chanting!) and as fullness itself: "the moving, the blazing, the full, the steadfast… light, taste, immortality".
The churned drink has become a mirror of the universe: before drinking, a man confesses in the cup everything by which the world lives — down to amṛtam, immortality. The rite teaches reverence for what is consumed: what is to enter you is first called by all the holy names, and only then taken in.
