एवं नामाभिनिर्वृत्तं तस्य देशस्य वै द्विजाः ।
पुण्यश् च रमणीयश् च स देशो वः प्रकीर्तितः ॥
तद् एतत् कथितं सर्वं मया वो मुनिसत्तमाः ।
यथा देशः स विख्यातस् त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः ॥

evaṃ nāmābhinirvṛttaṃ tasya deśasya vai dvijāḥ |
puṇyaś ca ramaṇīyaś ca sa deśo vaḥ prakīrtitaḥ ||
tad etat kathitaṃ sarvaṃ mayā vo munisattamāḥ |
yathā deśaḥ sa vikhyātas triṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ ||

Translation
Thus, O brahmanas, did the name of that region arise; and this holy and beautiful region has been described to you. All this has been told by me to you, O most worthy among sages -- how that region became renowned and famed throughout the three worlds.

The suta concludes the account of Samantapanchaka: its holy name arose from the deed of Parashurama, and its fame spread throughout all three worlds. The holiness of a place lies not in the land itself but in the deeds of the Lord's incarnations connected with it; it is precisely for this that Kurukshetra is revered in all the worlds. Holy places (tirthas) gain their power from contact with the divine; by turning to their story, a person touches that power and is purified. Thus even hearing about a holy land is part of hari-katha, which uplifts the heart.
